Fire and Smoke

The fire and smoke protocol puts a phased checklist on the job. The crew works it room by room and records residue and odor, and the office prints a report the adjuster or property manager can file.

A Fire and Smoke Protocol on Every Job

Start the protocol from the job, and the checklist is copied from your company's step list. Steps run in phases from assessment and mitigation through cleaning, odor, HVAC, and contents to close out, and each step records who finished it and when.

  • Phased Checklist. Assess, Mitigate, Clean, Odor, HVAC, Contents, and Close Out.
  • Required Steps. A required step must be done or marked not applicable, with a reason, before the protocol can close.
  • Deviations on Record. When the crew does something different from the plan, the reason prints in the report.

Room-by-Room Damage Records

Each room in the protocol records the residue type, whether char is present, the odor level, and the affected square feet. Rooms group into zones with their containment, so the record shows where the work happened.

  • Residue Types. Wet smoke, dry smoke, protein, fuel oil, or other.
  • Odor and Char. Odor from none to heavy, and whether char is present, per room.
  • Rooms and Photo Tags. Areas by room with categorized photos in a per-room grid.

Clearance and Client Sign-Off

Record a post-cleaning evaluation or third-party testing for each zone. The client acceptance is created from your template and signed by the client, and the protocol lists anything that still stands in the way of closing.

  • Clearance Rounds. Post-cleaning evaluation or third-party testing, with results per zone.
  • Client Acceptance. A signed document linked to the protocol.
  • Left to Close. Every open item, with a link to the tab where it is fixed.

A Report for the File

The protocol report carries the rooms and zones, the containment log, deviations and explanations, and photos, plus the equipment days when they are available. Print it or save it as a PDF from the print window.

  • Printable Protocol Report. Rooms, zones, containment, deviations, and photos in one file.
  • Equipment Days. Days per type, room, and chamber from the equipment scanned onto the job.
  • Event Log. Records show who made them and when, and many edits ask for a reason.

Common Questions

Can I use my own fire and smoke checklist?

Yes. Your company keeps its own step list in settings, and each new protocol copies it. Later changes to the list do not change jobs already under way.

Does the crew need a signal to work the checklist?

No. Drying and protocol logs keep working on the phone with no signal and sync when the crew is back online.

Is the fire and smoke protocol on every plan?

Yes. The fire and smoke, mold, and biohazard protocols are included on every plan.

Every plan includes the fire and smoke, mold, and biohazard protocols.
